Main-Screening of Manuscripts :

Editors / Referees role

It is a detailed thorough review, to evaluate a manuscript opine on its value for acceptance, revision (minor/moderate/major) or rejection; on valid grounds with written comments. This detailed screening may require seeking of opinion/assigning of manuscripts to the referees (peers) also. It is the “Bioinformatics Trends” editor’s prerogative to assign a manuscript for further review or refereeing to any member of the Referees panel.

1. Selection of manuscripts for review by Editors

  • The manuscripts that withstand the pre-screening test are forwarded in to this step.
  • This page/part of manuscript management module, makes the first received manuscript available at the top of the list.
  • The module shows maximum 25 manuscripts on the selection page, and adds a new manuscript (on the basis of date of receipt), soon after the selection of a manuscript by three editors for its detailed thorough review.
  • On selection of manuscripts, the system serves on first selected (marked) first served (allotted/assigned) basis.
  • It defines upper (5 in no.) and lower (1 in no.) limit of the number of manuscripts an editor may be allotted in 6 weeks.
  • It displays the status of allotment (selection) of manuscripts, by indicating which manuscripts, selected by whom and at what date.

2. Review of manuscripts & peer review process

  • The editors can offer their comments online on acceptance, revision (minor/moderate/major), and rejection.
  • The module enables the editors to review the comments of other fellow editors.
  • “Bioinformatics Trends” provides an automated refereeing system. Editors are supported by a peer review process.
  • They may assign the manuscripts after selection to their peers (“Bioinformatics Trends” enlisted referees).
  • It enables an editor to choose a subject expert (referee) from a maintained list of referees, and get the refereeing job done.
  • The module facilitates communication between the editors and referees.
  • It will be a dynamic list.

3. Time lines

  • The suggested timelines for review of a manuscript after selection in the process of detailed screening is 6 weeks (45 days) period.
  • A time-line in exceptional cases (with due justification) may be got extended and revised with due note to the “Bioinformatics Trends”. The extended time-line will accordingly be updated.

4. Acceptance/revision/rejection of manuscripts

  • The module allows selection of a particular manuscript by maximum three editors for review.
  • A manuscript will be accepted/rejected on the basis of two positive/negative opinions out of the three. The first two identical opinions may decide the fate of a manuscript. In cases of suggested revisions, “Bioinformatics Trends” will wait till a majority vote (two) from editors on final acceptance (after revision) or rejection (after revision) is arrived at. Two sequential opinions for revision of a manuscript will entitle it for revision by its author.
  • In case of first opinion for acceptance and second for revision, “Bioinformatics Trends” will keep such manuscript on hold; till a third opinion for acceptance or revision is received. A manuscript remains open for further review by a referee(s), if an editor opines so.
  • The final decision again will be based of two positive/negative opinions finally arrived at by editors after seeking opinion from referees. “Bioinformatics Trends” decides fate of a manuscript on the basis and written/recorded comments of editors.
  • However, in case of any dilemma in arriving at a consensus, “Bioinformatics Trends” publication management teams’ decision will be taken as final.
